Time Warner Cable

Time Warner Cable is an Internet service provider that uses a cable connection to feed Internet into a home. Time Warner is the second largest cable provider and offers Internet, home phone and television services.

Time Warner Cable Internet options

Time Warner offers Internet to its customers. Time Warner Internet is on a shared network which means the connection may run through some homes before getting to others.

Unlike a dedicated connection, cable’s shared network could mean using an Internet connection shared by up to 500 of your neighbors. A shared network increases lag and latency because multiple devices may be on the same connection at each residence.

Because of the shared network, Time Warner Internet prices don’t always accurately represent the speed you get. Although a plan may promise 20 Megabits per second (Mbps), not all customers receive this speed. Your speed will depend on:

  • How many neighbors connect to the same network
  • How many users are on the network at a given time
  • The speed your plan is capable of
  • What you use the Internet for

Most of these factors are out of your control. The cable Internet speed you want is not always the Internet speed you get.
